Advantages of Seamless Steel Pipe

Higher Pressure Ratings: One of the most striking features of seamless tubing is its ability to withstand higher pressure. Hence a seamless tube is said to be equally stronger around the entire circumference of the pipe. It has 20% higher ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) working pressure in comparison to the conventional welded tubing methods. In critical applications, the instruments and
tubing can sustain pressure above 30,000 psi. This can eventually save time and money, which will also aid in minimizing the maintenance expense and reducing the unplanned downtime. Seamless tubes are designed to sustain a great amount of load when filled with materials or liquid in addition to its own weight.

Uniformity in Shape: Seamless pipes have round cross section as it comes with a continuous extrusion, thus giving them a round cross section and a uniform shape. Also, the seamless tubing has no longitudinal weld seam. The tubes are designed in such a way that they are completely homogenous throughout the tube’s cross section. Also, the heavier wall thickness of these tubes eliminates any risk of failure at the weld seam

Superior Corrosion Resistance: Seamless tube offers a higher degree of corrosion resistance as it has little room for impurities. Also, using a seamless tube helps identify potential defects and malleability differences that are mostly associated with the welded area in the welding tubes. Thus, it is regarded more suitable for critical applications.

Seamless VS Welded Steel Pipe Elbow

Seamless elbow is manufactured by the seamless steel pipe, through hot push, press or extrusion processes, no seam on the elbow body.
Welded elbow is manufactured by welded steel pipe, same processes with seamless elbow.But there is a seam on the elbow body.

Prime steel pipe tells you the differences between seamless elbow and welded elbow on raw material, manufacturing processes, performances, appearances, sizes, applications, cost prices etc.

1. Appearance difference
The biggest difference between seamless elbows and welded elbows are whether there is a weld, but  now many of the welded steel pipes will be polished off the welding seam before they leave the factory. The elbow that is made out of this steel pipe is invisible to the welding seam.There are a lot of exporter sell this kind of fake seamless elbow to customers. This kind of elbow is difficult to distinguish with the naked eye, and it needs to use professional testing tools. For now,false seamless elbow often appears in the area below the diameter of DN600.

2. Molding process differences
The process of using seamless steel pipe and welded steel pipe is the same process. The difference is the welded elbow made of steel plate, through bending and different welding processes.

3. Performance and Usage
Seamless steel pipe elbow has better pressure capacity, strength is higher than welded steel pipe elbow. So it is widely applied in high pressure equipment, and thermal, boiler industries. Generally the welding seam of the welded steel pipe elbow is the weak point, the quality affect overall performance.

In general, welded steel pipe elbows can withhold 20% less working pressure than seamless ones. This reliability is the prime factor why people go for seamless steel pipe elbow. As a matter of fact, all the industrial pipelines are done with seamless pipe elbows only because the elbows undergo extreme thermal, chemical and mechanical workloads. Welded elbows are more preferred in aerospace, automobile and electronics industries where the budget is comparatively low, and so is the work pressure put on the pipeline.

4. Available Sizes differences
For most of seamless steel pipe elbow manufacturers in China, they produce original seamless pipe elbow sizes maximum OD in 24 inch, 609.6 mm.On the contrary, welded steel pipe elbow don’t have these limitations, sizes available from 1-1/2 inch 48.3mm to 100 inch 2540 mm.

5. Cost and prices
Usually the seamless steel pipe elbow cost is higher than welded steel pipe elbow, because the raw material, manufacturing equipment and processes. But sometimes by the market pressure, welded elbow is more expensive, so if you met this situation, don’t hesitate to purchase the seamless steel pipe elbow for the same dimensions.

Comparison of Boiler Pipe SA-210C and ASTM A106 Grade C

At present, the domestic boiler water wall, economizer and other parts made in China are using 20G or ST45.8 high-pressure boiler tube. With the development of the power station, the working parameters of the boiler have been improved, especially the emergence of subcritical and supercritical boilers, which has a higher requirement for the wall thickness of the boiler pipe. Other countries in the world have adopted C-Mn steel which has a higher strength than 20G and good process performance to manufacture high pressure boilers, such as Japan's STB52, Germany's 19Mn5, American SA-210C and ASTM 106 Gr.C.


SA-210C is ASME boiler materials, a seamless carbon steel pipe widely used for water cooling wall, economizer of boiler parts. Its chemical composition is simple, except a higher carbon and manganese content, and the rest composition are similar to 20G, so the yield strength is about 20% higher than 20G while the plasticity and toughness are equivalent to 20G.Because of  simple production process and good properties. It is mainly used for water cooled wall, economizer, low temperature superheater and other parts with working temperature lower than 500 degrees centigrade.

ASTM A106 Gr C is ASTM A106 steel used for large diameter and high temperature and pressure boiler and Superheater C-Mn steel. Its chemical composition is simple, similar to that of 20G steel, but the content of carbon and manganese is higher, so the yield strength is about 12% higher than that of 20G, and the plasticity and toughness are similar to 20G. Manufacturing header with A106 Gr C instead of 20G (economizer, water cooling wall, low temperature superheater and reheater header) can reduce the wall thickness of about 10%, which can save the cost of materials, but also reduce the workload of welding, improve the heat transfer condition of boiler. It’s working pressure is 6 ~ 13.9MPa and steam temperature is 450~580 degrees.

Benefit of API 5L 3LPE Anticorrosion Pipe

3-layer anticorrosion pipe is a multilayer, thermoplastic coating designed to provide maximum long term corrosion resistance and mechanical protection to steel pipe. The system was developed for use in demanding pipeline environments where superior adhesion, cathodic
disbondment and impact resistance properties are essential to maintaining pipeline integrity.
It consists of the 3 following components which are simultaneously applied to the pre-heated pipe to form a homogenous barrier against corrosion. The system is typically available in yellow or black:
I) A primary layer of thermosetting fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) powder that adheres to the heated steel substrate providing the corrosion protection and
II) A secondary layer of adhesive polymer resin that reacts chemically with the previously applied FBE to act as a bonding agent and
III) A third layer of high density polyethylene (HDPE) that bonds with the previously applied adhesive resin providing mechanical protection to the system
