Manufacturing Process for Stainless Steel Pipe and Tube

Tube mill Process description of stainless steel pipe and tube:
Rolling and welding
Firstly, the stainless steel strips are made to go through various quality checks and are trimmed at edges. The strips pass through the number of rollers as per the required size. In the tubes-mill, the strip is gradually converted into the tubular shape. The fitted welding machine is then used to weld trim edges of the strip using TIG welding process. The scraps and inside weld bead are removed instantaneously by the Tibo machine. In this way, rolled pipes and tubes are formed.


The cleaning and heating phase
The rolled stainless steel pipes thus manufactured are cut to the required lengths depending upon the industrial demand. These stainless pipes and tubes are then subjected to cleaning to remove the dirt. Further, a heat treatment is given to these rolled pipes and tubes to remove the stresses that may occur due to welding and formation processes. Heat treatment is given on the continuously rolling hearth furnace. The furnace is fitted with temperature recorders and controllers. After the heat treatment process, the SS tubes and pipes are straightened and subjected to pickling for removing scales from the surface.

Cold- drawing process
In some cases, the required size may not be obtained from the mill directly. Then, the cold operation process can be used to obtain the desired size. In cold drawing process, the tubes or pipes are coated with oxalic and soap solution. This solution acts as a lubricant to reduce friction while cold drawing operation. In the cold drawing process, the tube or pipe is drawn over the bench using Die plugs.

Finishing process
The drawn-out tube subjected to cleaning, heat treatment, pickling and straightening. The computerized ink jet marking machine is used to do the marking on the finished pipes or tubes. The pipe or tube is marked with grade of material, size, heat number and the stamp of third party inspection before passing on to stainless steel pipe exporters. The stainless tubes or pipes thus produced will undergo certain testing and quality checks. This process is followed by proper packing and dispatch. There are numerous numbers of stainless steel pipe applications, these pipes and tubes are used there after use.

Because chrome plating has a naturally bright appearance, it is utilized more in the automobile industry.

Variety
Because steel has the ability to undergo heat treatment, it’s easy to find carbon steel pipe fittings with just the right amount of carbon for any purpose. Mild carbon steel is typically used when a project calls for a large amount of steel because of its lower price and standard usage. Medium carbon steel is mostly utilized in the automotive industry due to its erosion resistance. Due to its strength, high carbon steel is used in the making of wires and springs. However, once the carbon content reaches 1.0%, it is only used for specific, non-industrial purposes.

Application of Carbon, Stainless and Galvanized Steel Pipe Fittings

Since ages, steel is considered best material for making pipe and pipe fittings. The properties in steel like - durability, high strength and high resistance to heat makes it ideal for pipe and pipe fittings. The most common variety of such steel pipe fittings used are – Galvanized steel pipe fitting, Carbon steel pipe fitting and Stainless steel pipe fitting.

Galvanized steel pipe fitting and its applications
Through a chemical process, a layer of zinc is coated over the steel. Such pipes are highly resistant to corrosion due to which they are ideal for making pipe and pipe fittings. The zinc layer increases the life of the pipe fittings. They are usually manufactured from seamless tubes or forgings under specific standard. They are available in sizes ranging from 8mm to 150mm and used for piping inside the building and water lines but not ideal for gas pipelines.

Carbon steel is iron based metal, and is durable and stronger than the other steel type which is why it is suitable for manufacturing pipe fittings. Carbon being the main element, it enhances the hardness and strength of the steel. It contains more of carbon with small quantity of manganese and other elements. Carbon steel pipe fittings are used in oil, water, gas and steam lines which are expose to high pressure. They are also considered ideal for different construction purposes.

Stainless steel pipe fittings and its application
Stainless steel resists oxidation and corrosion when expose to certain environments. These steel type contains 10% chromium and is a ferrous alloy. They are generally used for household pipelines. Pipe fittings like tees, elbows, unions etc are made of stainless steel.

Anti-Corrosion Pipeline Transportation

All the anti-corrosion pipelines must pass the factory inspection, when the pipes delivered to the specified address, the transportation management staff and the reception staff check coated pipes and fill out the view record. Serious damage to the coating of the tube should be shipped back to the preservative precast plant.


Anti-corrosion pipe is transported by special vehicle and the bottom of vehicle chooses thickness not less than 15mm rubber sheet having a width of not less than 100mm in order to reduce the impact of abrasions. Transport of vehicles must be restricted avoiding sudden braking to prevent pipe displacement or damage to the coating.

Loading and unloading pipes using crane or pipelayer. Coated pipes handling should use special harnesses with hanging and dropping gently. In the contact surface pad soft material avoiding bump and should pay particular attention to orifice protection. The angle between corrosion-resistant pipes and the slings should not less than 30°in the hoisting process.
