Hydrostatic Testing of Steel Pipe

For hydrostatic testing purposes, there are two: one is the process of hydraulic test to test whether the leaking pipe, that test tube sealing performance; Another is confirmatory hydrostatic test to test the strength of steel adequacy. In general, low and medium pressure boiler pipe hydrostatic test is part of the process of the hydrostatic test, which is the density of material testing and inspect and whether the material is a continuous dense; it is not verify the strength tests. From the intensity of mechanics of materials theory, seamless steel components are thin and long, and its diameter is very small, even for thin-walled capillary tubes can withstand great pressure. That is to say, when low and medium pressure boiler tubes test pressure, even when there are deep cracks, can not happen leaking.

Hydrostatic test is that many product specification test methods are available. This test can detect leakage of liquid from the inner wall of the case outward can be observed with the naked eye or with a pressure drop to determine. Hydrostatic test can not be found through-wall defects but very close or very close to the wall thickness in depth but not yet fully penetrated defects. Conducted for each pipe eddy current inspection after the low and medium pressure boiler pipe hydrostatic testing is not necessary to replace the hydrostatic test eddy current testing.

Steel pipe hydrostatic testing procedure is as follows:
  • test section at the end of block, slow water injection, the tube gas discharge.
  • after the steel tube filled with water, water tightness checks.
  • made slow progress in steel pressure appropriate USES manual pump, booster time should not less than 10 min.
  • stop pressure after test pressure, observe the 10 min, must not exceed 0.02 MPa pressure drop; Then put the testing pressure drop to the working pressure, steel pipe for visual inspection, leak-proof is not qualified.
  • after arrival, steel pipe pressure, leakage and pressure drop more than a specified value, check the steel tube, after the reason to discharge the leakage, as stipulated in the above to test again, until it meets the requirements.
  • the temperature is lower than 5 ℃ under the environment of water pressure and water capacity, reliable antifreezing measures should be taken, after the test, water should be put.

Welding Safety Tips

With a craft as precise and potentially dangerous as welding comes the dyer the need to protect yourself at all times during the process! Welding is necessary to join materials like thermoplastics or metals. While there are various different types of welding – including gas tungsten arc welding and shielded metal arc welding – staying safe should remain a constant no matter what or how you are welding. 


Protective Gear
First things first, NEVER weld without wearing a face shield, helmet, or goggles that come equipped with special plates or filter lenses. That’s basically welding. Ear protection like muffs or earplugs is a must too, because shooting sparks could very well puncture an eardrum. Don’t just strictly consider protecting yourself, either. Putting up screens of some sort to protect people near your welding station will prevent heat or light from harming them in some way.

Electrocution/Fire Prevention
You’ll want to be sure that there are no puddles of water on the floor near your weld bench or machine when you prepare to turn it on. The main box, torch, pedal, and plug should be completely dry to reduce risk of electrocution. The welding area also must be avoid of any flammable objects or liquids so a fire doesn’t ensue.

Ventilation 
We probably don’t need to tell you how dangerous welding fumes can be when breathed in. It’s important to avoid inhaling fumes or gases, especially those released through arc welding. A hood can be looked at as a sort of “local exhaust ventilation,” and some forms of general ventilation includes roof vents, windows, and fans on the ceiling or floor to circulate fresh air around the work area.

Some other basic welding tips to remember:
  • Wear closed shoes and non-flammable, long sleeved shirts while welding
  • Always wear welding gloves
  • Make sure your face is never too close to the welding plume
  • Keep your welding area neat and clean to eliminate the risk of falls or accidents
  • Refrain from welding on painted parts or discard the surface coating before you do
  • Change positions periodically to remain as physically comfortable as possible
  • If you burn yourself, don’t wait to douse the injured area in water immediately
  • DO NOT weld on anything that has been wiped down with a chlorinated hydrocarbon, such as brake cleaner. When mixed with UV light it can create a poisonous phosgene gas, which can be fatal.

What Caused the Easily Collapse of Scaffolding System

1. The material 2. Design problem and 3.Application problems.

1.Material: the main parts of the gantry scaffolding tube steel pipe. According to the standard requirements, the doors scaffold should use 48 mm outside diameter, wall thickness of 3.5 mm carbon steel pipe welding. 
This kind of steel pipe due to the thickness of the moment of inertia to make lose 10%, use the rust after a long time can cause wall thickness is thinner and moment of inertia will also reduce, so will become a safety hazard.

2. The design problem: activity scaffolding collapse is the main reason of the support is not stable. Before construction, many enterprises were not scaffolding stiffness checking, just rely on experience support system, the insufficient scaffolding tube rigidity and stability of the support system to consider. Other steel pipe due to corrosion or wear and tear, and the local bending, welding, will lead to the actual bearing capacity to reduce a lot of steel tube, it is easy to happen accident.

3. The application problem: many current construction site technical director, not on the safety of the construction workers for detailed technical clarificaiton, plus some workers quality is lower, will inevitably occur application problems.

US DOC revises anti-dumping duty on Vietnamese steel pipes

VNS reported that the United States Department of Commerce has revised its preliminary conclusion of the anti-dumping investigation of Vietnamese circular welded carbon-quality steel pipes, citing significant ministerial errors. In a notice dated July 15, DOC raised the dumping margin rates for both Vietnam Haiphong Hongyuan Machinery Manufactory Co Ltd and Hoa Phat Steel Pipe Co to 2.32 per cent, instead of 1.19 per cent and 0.38 per cent, respectively, mentioned in the preliminary report in June 2016.


The rate for SeAH Steel Vina Corporation remained unchanged at zero per cent. Other steel pipe exporters will still face the countrywide rate of 113.18 per cent, based on adverse reports.

On June 8, 2016, DOC had published its affirmative preliminary determination that circular welded carbon-quality steel pipes (CWP) from Viet Nam was being sold in the United States at less than fair value provided by section 733 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and at different rates.

However, American petitioners filed comments alleging significant ministerial errors in the margin calculated for Vietnamese businesses. After analysing the comments, DOC detected the errors in margin calculation and decided to revise the dumping margin rates for two Vietnamese steel exporters.

On December 17, 2015, DOC initiated dumping investigation concerning imports of CWP from Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pakistan and Viet Nam. Among these four countries, the highest rate of more than 113 per cent was imposed on Viet Nam.

Vietnam's CWP exports to the United States reached US$60.6 million in 2014, the highest among the four countries probed, according to the Vietnam Competition Authority.

Turkey Imposes Anti-dumping Duty on Chinese SMLS

Turkey has imposed an anti-dumping duty on imports of seamless drawn steel pipe from China. The decision taken by the Ministry of Economy aims to protect Turkey's domestic iron and steel industry against cheap Chinese imports. Turkey will hike up duty on Chinese seamless drawn steel pipe imports between USD 100 and USD 120 per ton, depending on the producer.

Why Use Welded Steel Pipe

Structural welded pipe (tubing) can be used for a wide variety of mechanical applications. It may be used either statically or dynamically. Its close tolerances, good finish, and dense structure make it ideal for parts such as structural support and parts, frames, racks, trailer beds and trailer components, structural components and supports for buildings, bridges, and highways, conveyors, machine parts, ornamental usages and a wide range of applications in industrial, construction, automotive, appliance and agricultural industries. 

Welded pipes are generally more cost effective than the equivalent seamless alternative. They are significantly more available both from distributor and mill stocks and from a mill production lead time perspective. With longer lead times seamless tubes can be exposed to unknown alloying price extras that can fluctuate substantially, hence it can be difficult to plan and predict the true costs for the material. Therefore in addition to faster delivery times for Erw tubes, there is the added advantage of lower economical risk. Erw welded steel tubes generally have better surface quality as compared with manufacturing seamless tubes. Seamless tubes are generally made in multiple steps starting with hot extrusion to form the tube hollows from billets.

The Difference between Black Pipes and Carbon Pipes

What is the black pipe?
Black steel pipe is made of steel that had not been galvanized, Its name comes from the scaly, dark-colored iron oxide coating on its surface, It's used in applications that don't require galvanized steel.


Steel whose characteristics are determined by the amount of carbon it contains. And steel is considered to be carbon steel when no minimum content is specified or required for chromium, cobalt, niobium, molybdenum, nickel, titanium, tungsten, vanadium or zirconium, or any other element to be added to obtain a desired alloying effect; when the specified minimum for copper does not exceed 0.40 percent; or when the maximum content specified for any of the following elements does not exceed the percentages noted: manganese 1.65, silicon 0.60, copper 0.60.
Most the steel produced in the world falls into the category of carbon steel.

3. Difference between black pipes and carbon pipes
In general "black" steel pipe and carbon steel pipe have about the same procedures for welding. That is if you are talking about general welding and not for some specific application like very cold temperatures. Black steel pipe is not really a specification but rather a generic term used primarily by plumbers to distinguish regular steel pipe from galvanized steel pipe. Most black steel pipe has a composition similar to ASTM A-53 pipe. The difference between A-53 and common steel pipe like A-106 are so close that some pipe is actually marked to meet both specifications. Black pipe and A 53 can be seamless or welded seam while A 106 is seamless.
